HOW TO PLAY

SETUP

Pick mascots or shuffle. The coin decides who receives.

CALLING A PLAY

Choose a personnel grouping, then RUN or PASS, then SNAP. Groupings run from 10 (four receivers) to 22 (two backs, two tight ends). More blockers, better runs and a longer pocket. More receivers, better throws. It's also a tell — line up heavy and the defense sits on the run.

THROWING

Tap a receiver on the field. One who beats his man glows green — throw there. Deep routes take longer to come open, and the pocket doesn't last.

DEFENSE

STOP RUN — buries runs, gives up the pass.
BASE — no strong read.
COVER PASS — best coverage, most time to react.
BLITZ — the only way to sack the quarterback. Miss and the coverage is thin and you get barely a second to read the route. Against a run it's boom or bust.

COVERING

When they pass, their target glows red as his route breaks. Tap him. Guessing wrong is worse than not guessing.

KICKING

Swipe up from the ball, staying inside the lane. Longer kicks need a longer swipe. Range is 70 yards, but long ones rarely go. Kickoffs and punts are a flick.

OVERTIME

Level after four quarters and you play a ten-minute period. Both sides get the ball, then the next score wins. A defensive score on the opening drive ends it right there. Still tied at the end and they play another period — nothing ends in a tie.

SITUATIONS

Touchdowns are six, then kick or go for two. Picks get returned and occasionally go all the way. Tackled in your own end zone is a safety — two points the other way. In the last 25 seconds of a half a HAIL MARY appears.

WATCHING
